02.06.2025

A delegation of Turkmen experts completed a study visit to Uzbekistan, which took place from May 20 to 25, 2025 within the framework of the project "European Union for Green Development of Turkmenistan", co-financed by the EU and the German Foreign Ministry. The main objective of the visit was to prepare for the launch of a pilot project on cleaning drainage water and using solar energy in irrigation systems, a GIZ representative told Turkmenportal.

The trip was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the Scientific and Production Center for Renewable Energy Sources and the State Energy Institute. The delegation visited the Karakalpakstan branch of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the Youth Technopark in Nukus, the Aral Sea International Innovation Center, as well as higher education institutions and industrial enterprises in Tashkent.

Turkmen specialists have studied advanced technologies for using microalgae for bio-purification of water, methods of adaptation to climate change and the production of solar panels. The knowledge gained will be applied in a pilot project, which is being implemented at the scientific and production center in the city of Mary. The project is based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2024 between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the “Turkmengas” Concern and the German organization GIZ.

A representative of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan noted the importance of international exchange of experience for the development of environmentally friendly technologies and ensuring environmental safety of the country. The project is designed for 2024-2028 and is aimed at supporting Turkmenistan in achieving sustainable development goals and transition to a green economy.
